Arbonne 30 Days to Healthy Living is:
  • VEGAN CERTIFIED
  • GMO FREE
  • GLUTEN FREE
  • DAIRY FREE
  • WHEY FREE
  • SOY FREE
Key Areas of Health Include:
  • Decrease Intake of Toxins: Eliminate refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, dairy, whey, soy, gluten, coffee and alcohol. Replace addictive allergenic and acidic foods with healthier alternative options.
  • Increase Nutrition Intake/Absorption: We teach you how to eat clean and provide easy meal menus and recipes. Replace 1-2 meals a day with Arbonne's vegan protein shake which has 20 grams of plant protein, 20 vitamins and minerals, and 13 grams of complex carbs.
  • Improve Elimination of Toxins: Toxins are stored in fat cells which makes it difficult to maintain a healthy weight. We can hold up to 25 lbs of waste in our intestines!
  • Balance Blood Sugar: Balanced blood sugar throughout the day controls cravings, regulates hunger and sustains energy so you feel great overall.
  • Balance Your System's pH: Man made foods lead to acidic pH lead to inflammation which then promotes sickness such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, Cancer, Wrinkles, and Bacterial/Viral Infections. WHOLE FOODS LEAD TO ALKALINE PH WHICH ELIMINATES INFLAMMATION AND STARVES THE DISEASE PROCESS!
  • Support: We provide you with resources, education, encouragement and recipes/menus for clean eating through our private Facebook group. Weekly coaching tips will help you maximize your results.
SHAKE NUTRITION: These shakes provide 20 grams of vegan protein from pea, rice and cranberry. My husband who is really into fitness and nutrition for himself was skeptical about vegan plant based protein being a "complete protein" but we looked further into it and found that when you mix the pea, rice and cranberry you get all your amino acids to make it a complete protein.  Plant based protein is a lot more easy to digest than other proteins like whey protein and soy protein.  The shakes are also clinically tested and certified to have a low glycemic index, which has little effect on blood sugar levels and does not cause a spike in blood sugar.  To see the full nutrition label, go HERE and select the "Meet The Product Sheet" after selecting your flavor.

Havasupai Falls Hike Guide Tips/Tricks

As I was scrolling thru Pinterest one day, I came across a picture of a bright blue waterfall that looked fake. Sure enough it said it was Havasupai Falls in Arizona! I just HAD to go there. So I did some research and booked the trip. I live in San Francisco bay area so my boyfriend and I decided to fly into Las Vegas after work one night, got a rental car, stayed at Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs (about a 3 hour drive from the Las Vegas airport), and got up in the morning, ate our big free breakfast, then drove an hour to the Havasupai Trailhead.

If you are planning on doing this trip, make sure to book your camping reservation far in advanced. Here is a link that gives you phone numbers and prices.  http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/havasupai.htm
I booked our reservation in February, as soon as they began taking reservations for the 2015 year.

We booked 2 nights of camping. It is a 8 mile hike to the reservation, and an extra 2 miles to get to the campground. Here we are at the trailhead all ready to go with our packs!

Some people use the mules to carry their packs down for them, but I would never do this! These poor mules looked BEAT! It made me sad seeing them with those heavy loads.

So speaking of our packs, I wish I had known a couple of things. First, at night, the Grand Canyon gets COLD! Sleeping outside in a tent, the temperature got down to about 27 degrees F. I was shivering all night. All I brought was a pair of yoga pants, a long sleeve t-shirt, and one thin jacket. I ended up wrapping my head in the jacket trying to get warm and sleep. We only had 2 sleeping pads, and 2 thin blankets that we were sharing in our tent. I would recommend buying and bringing a sleeping BAG each. You are going to want your own sleeping bag to keep you warm at night, trust me! I found some lightweight sleeping bags that are good for cold weather at REI for next time :-)

Another thing is that our packs were HEAVY because we thought we had to bring enough water for 3 full days! We would have been good with just bringing 4 water bottles each, maybe a gatorade too for the hike down. Once you reach the village, there are 2 stores that sell cold drinks! They even take credit cards! Also at the campground there is a running water area that you can drink from/ fill up water bottles. We didn't trust this water but everyone else was drinking from it and seemed to be ok. Next time I am not trucking down 12 water bottles for no reason!

The 8 mile hike down to the village wasn't too bad, my feet started hurting and shoulders hurt from the heavy water bottle filled pack, but it took us about 4 hours total. Here are a couple of pictures of us on our trek down, starting to feel the pain :-)

When we finally got to the village, we checked in at the desk, got our camping pass, and continued 2 more miles down to the campground.  Here is a picture of the Havasupai Village.

As we were finally getting closer I could hear the waterfall, and soon enough we came around the turn and THERE IT WAS! The bright blue waterfall I saw in the Pinterest picture! Here are my own pictures to prove it!

After taking some selfies, we continued to the campground and found a nice spot to set up our tent.  It gets dark in the canyon pretty early so we ended up setting up our tent, eating our colossal protein bars and goldfish crackers for dinner, and then going to sleep around 9.
Here is a picture of the campground area.

The next morning we woke up around 8 and headed to Mooney Falls. After taking a few pictures of that, we headed back to the Havasupai Falls and played in the water for a few hours. The water was cold, but felt refreshing on my sore feet and body! (Not as cold as the Pacific Ocean but close)

After playing in the water all day, we went back to our tent, had our protein bars for dinner again, played some card games, then went to sleep pretty early. The next morning we ate our bagels with peanut butter, took down the tent, and were on our way to hike out! Of course we stopped at the store in the village to grab some cold waters and gatorades for the hike. The 8 mile hike out seemed to go faster than the hike down (maybe we knew what we were in for, and our packs were MUCH lighter.) EXCEPT, the last mile and a half, is the uphill battle! We had to take a few breaks, but we made it! It felt so nice finally getting back to the car and knew we were on our way to go get some burgers and fries!

All in all, this was such a fun trip! I would definitely recommend going here at least once in your life!

My First Stitch Fix

So my obsession with Pinterest got me again, and I kept seeing all this hype about StitchFix! I got my first fix shipped to me and wanted to post the pictures of the 5 items!

First, I LOVE these black crop pants! They are Kut from the Kloth and fit perfectly! For $58, I decided to keep these because I know they will be getting worn lots! Can be worn either to work with heels or flats, or out in a more casual setting as well. I also liked the shirt, but it was priced at $58 and I know I can find something like it for $25 and then have 2 different colors ;-)

Next, I also really like this tank top. It will be perfect for summer coming up when I'm going out on a date or with friends. My favorite part about the tank is the top silver part that adds the built in necklace look. Makes it a little more fancy. Keeping this shirt, even though it costs $68.

Last, I like the idea of the blazer, but wish the color was different. Not really into the material it came in and how it easily wrinkles. I also like the necklace $34 (kind of tough to see in this picture) but I normally don't wear any long necklaces.

To sum it up, I feel like my stylist Lindsey really put some time into looking at my Pinterest board and figured out my type of style!! Looking forward for my next box to come in the mail!

Brunch Idea

Oh weekend brunch with endless mimosas, WHERE are you??!! I always find myself searching for the best spot that has this deal, and usually looking for one that is at least open until 2 PM, since I am not out of bed until 11 AM on weekends! Yes, there are a couple spots around my house to go to, but they are all about a 20-30 minute drive, and after having endless mimosas you are stuck out in that area until you are good to drive. So I've come up with a solution!! Make your own brunch and mimosas! You are going to save money, save calories (you know how much butter/oil you are using), and don't have to drive anywhere (as long as you go to the store the day before).

Your shopping list for Friday:

  • Champagne (more than one bottle if you want bottomless mimosas)
  • Orange Juice
  • Eggs
  • Bacon
  • Potatoes
  • Bread
  • Ketchup (optional)

Saturday and/or Sunday morning brunch instructions:
  1. Wake up and pop that champagne! Fill the glass half-way (or more) and top it with orange juice. You can then start the cooking.
  2. Start the potatoes:
    • Heat oven to 420 degrees.
    • Slice 2 or 3 potatoes into small squares or triangles.
    • Place potatoes onto 13 x 9 or whatever you have (make sure you spray it with cooking spray)
    • Season potatoes with salt, pepper, and anything else (I use garlic salt or paprika)
    • Put in oven for 25 minutes, then flip and re-season.
    • Put back in oven for another 25 minutes or till crisp to your desire!
  3. While waiting for the first 25 minutes of the potatoes to go by, put on some dance music and continue drinking your mimosa.
  4. After flipping the potatoes and adding another 25 minutes for potatoes, wait until the timer gets down to 10 minutes left and start making the bacon. Put bacon on pan on medium heat, flip after 3 minutes.  Continue cooking until desired crispness.
  5. Also while cooking the bacon, use another pan to make the eggs. You can make the eggs anyway you would like, but I make mine over-easy. If that is too difficult, just go with scrambled. (I hope you can handle that without directions.) :-)
  6. Make sure to pop in the bread for some side toast!
  7. When everything is ready, you can go with my style, place the bacon on the toast, and put an egg on top of it to make an open-faced egg sandwich. Potatoes can soak up any extra yolk and/or use ketchup for potatoes.
Enjoy and BE healthy, have fun, don't have too many mimosas or you might end up needing my Hangover Cures !

Math Tip

Here is a tip I recently discovered from my mom, who is a math teacher! It can come in handy when trying to figure out discounts on clothes at the mall, or figuring out what to tip for a service. Some teachers don't even know this trick! Here goes:

Can you tell me what 17 % of 50 is?

The easy way is to flip this equation around to what is 50% of 17? Which is very easy to do, half of 17 is 8.5. This means that 8.5 is also the answer to 17% of 50!

You can do this with any percentage problem, just flip it around and the answer will be the same. To prove this to you, think about what is 10% of 100, 10 right? Well 100% of 10 is 10 as well. Get it? Hopefully this will come in handy for you one day!

With school being back in session I thought this would be a perfect post for this Monday :-)

Enjoy and be smart!

Turkey Burgers with Peach Blueberry Topping

Delicious summer dinner that is light! Found this recipe from Better Homes and Gardens. To make it even lighter, omit the cheese like I did.

Ingredients
4
small peaches
1
pound ground turkey

Salt

Ground black pepper
4
slices Monterey Jack cheese
1/2
cup blueberries
1/4
teaspoon chili powder
4
thick slices roasted garlic country bread or garlic bread, toasted if desired
Directions
  1. Finely chop one of the peaches; add ground turkey, salt, and pepper. Shape turkey mixture into four 1/2-inch-thick patties (if necessary, dampen hands first). Grill on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium-high heat for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until no pink remains (165 degrees F). Add cheese; cover and cook 1 minute more.
  2. Meanwhile, coarsely chop remaining peaches. In a large skillet combine peaches, blueberries, and chili powder. Cook, stirring occasionally, over medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes or until heated through and juices are beginning to form.
  3. Top each piece of garlic bread with one turkey burger and some of the peach mixture. If desired, top with additional chili powder.

Lunches Under 500 Calories

Lunch is a meal where you want to get enough calories to hold you over to dinner, but not too many calories to make you feel stuffed and lethargic for the rest of the day.  You also want to be sure you are eating the correct amount of calories you need per day, and with this tool from the American Cancer Society website you can look it up. Calorie Calculator

Bring Your Lunch

ReadyPac Salads
ReadyPac salads are one of the best options for lunches under 500 calories. There are many different options and they now even have tortilla wrap kits too! Check out all of the options here. ReadyPac Salads You can buy them at almost any supermarket and bring them to lunch or school for a great healthy lunch. They come with a mini fork so you don't have to worry about that either. These ReadyPacs are also a very good way to save money on lunch since they are around $4.00 per salad. They are almost always on sale if you buy 3 or more (which means you can just buy your week's worth of lunch).

If you prefer to go out to lunch:

Starbucks has many lunch options you can choose from that are under 500 calories. Choose from any of the bistro boxes.

Starbucks Protein Box
Or choose from their sandwiches, a favorite and vegetarian option being the roasted tomato mozzarella panini.

Starbucks Tomato Mozzarela Panini

When getting these, just be sure to not add a cookie, pastry, or coffee drink that will add to the calories. A healthier option is to add a non-sweetened iced tea, or a coffee with light sweetener and non-fat milk.

Chipotle has many options under 500 calories, but you will want to start by looking at their Chipotle Nutrition Calculator before you head out.

Wendy's salads are also an option.  You will need to get just a half-size salad, but they are still filling and are also delicious! Just don't order fries and a burger ;-)

If you are headed out to grab a sandwich at a deli, you will probably only want to eat half of it and share the other half with a friend. Sandwiches can get up in calories if you have the big deli roll, mayo, or cheese.

**The most important thing you can do before going out to lunch is look up the place online and find where they have their menu with the nutrition information. This way you can be prepared to order when you get there and you know exactly how many calories you will be eating.**

How to Book a Vacation

HAWAII
Whenever I want to book a vacation, I end up spending HOURS on the booking process. I want the best deal along with a hotel that has received good reviews. One of the best places I recommend is that you sign up on TravelZoo and get the top 20 deals sent to your email (I think it is every week or so). Also sign up for LivingSocial and Groupon. They have deals they will send you for vacation packages too. I hope to help cut down on your booking process by giving you the best websites to search on.

Start by making sure the place you are going to visit has good weather at the time you are going. (Just use google to get some information for this.) Next, find the hotel you want to stay at. Tripadvisor has the best reviews in my opinion. To book the vacation package you should use Orbitz, AppleVacations, CheapCaribbean, or once in awhile you can find good deals on the airlines vacation packages (especially for Las Vegas) at Southwest but DO NOT use Expedia! Let me tell you about my recent experience with Expedia...

I booked a trip to Jamaica with Expedia and the next morning (12 hours later) I received an email from my Travelzoo deals saying that DeltaVacations was having a summer sale for Jamaica trips! I then went to book the exact same trip that I did from Expedia, same flights, same hotel, and the deal was $300 cheaper with this. Luckily, I went back on Expedia and they have what they call the Best Price Guarantee! I send an email saying that they should honor this new price but they responded saying that they were not able to. I emailed back and forth 10 times that day, and tried calling (was put on hold for 45 min each time) and they said they only work thru email not over the phone. All in all, I spent about 10 hours off and on that day trying to get the best price guarantee and they never granted it to me. I ended up cancelling the whole trip thru Expedia and then booking with DeltaVacations. Definitely learned my lesson and want to warn you all about Expedia's horrible customer service. If you Google "expedia best price guarantee scam" a whole bunch of reviews come up!

Anyways....back to booking....once you have the vacation booked, look on TripAdvisor for "Things to do" where you are going. You should also look on the Travelzoo website for local deals of things to do. Hope this information will help you in the future! Have fun with the whole process and get excited! It's summertime and that means vacation time!!

Enjoy and BE relaxed!

Father's Day Ideas

With Father's Day coming up Sunday (that's 6 days away!), I wanted to give you all some ideas for gifts! As always, if you have something fun that you do for your father, please add it on the comments.

A few years ago I decided to start a Father's Day tradition with my dad.  I always take him to a San Francisco Giant's game (since this is his favorite team). In the past, I have surprised him with tickets and told him to take a day off of work since I take him to a day game during the week. This makes it fun for both of us because we both get to have a day of baseball with our normal work off.  Now that he knows it is a tradition, I usually tell him in advanced what day we will be going to, but still surprise him with the location of the tickets. Here we are at one of the games, and stopping for some food/drinks after the game.
At the Giant's Game
Happy Hour After the Game- Bay Bridge in Background

I would personally recommend that you take your father somewhere special and spend time with him for Father's Day. Father's Day doesn't have to mean expensive gifts, but it does need to be heart-felt.

Some places you could go are:
  • wine-tasting
  • fishing
  • river-rafting (look on Groupon for deals)
  • camping
  • dinner

If you have a really busy schedule and are not able to take time out to do something, or if your father lives too far away, you can always make something for you father. Even if you just get creative and make a card, this is still better than a store-bought card.  Whatever you do, just don't forget about him on his day!!!

Enjoy and get planning!

Everything Happens for a Reason

This is a great quote to live by. When going through any tough time, remember that everything happens for a reason! Time will heal everything. There have been times in my life where I thought the pain would never fade, but I focused on this quote, and was able to heal.  Things happen so you can learn from them, and the most important thing to do is to make sure you keep those lessons with you throughout your life.

Enjoy life and BE happy!
